The register publishes no licence numbers

Almost every affiliate page in this market prints a licence number as though the regulator had published it. It has not: its list carries trading names, the operation type licensed and the dates the licence runs between. Every number on this site comes from an operator's own footer, an app store listing or an affiliate, and this page says which for each of the 10 that carry one.

With the kind of source behind it

The Commission publishes none of these. Each is as strong as the source named beside it.

What the register answers

One question, and it is the most important one: is this company allowed to take my bet, and for the product I am about to use. That is worth more than everything else on this page put together, because it is the difference between a dispute with a licensed company and a dispute with nobody.

What it does not answer

Whether the contract is fair, whether withdrawals are paid promptly, or whether the operator's product matches the class of licence it holds. Two companies on this register hold a sports betting entry and run a full casino floor. That is a gap between a permission and a website, it is printed here as exactly that, and turning it into an accusation would need the licence documents rather than a list of names.

Why the numbers disagree

Ghana issues an annual provisional permit, so a company collects a new number every year and a set of numbers that look mutually contradictory is frequently a set of successive years, each correct on its own day. One record on this site sets out four numbers for a single bookmaker and identifies the current one from the operator's own footer.

The other reason is duller. Two numbers differing by one character, each carried by a different affiliate, is a transcription error that has been copied rather than a disagreement about a fact. Both kinds are on the log.

The regulator's name has not changed

Correct current name, and it has not changed. There was no body called the 'National Gaming Board' in Ghana: before Act 721 established the Commission, oversight of casinos and other games of chance sat directly with the Ministry of the Interior under the Lotteries and Betting Act 1960 (Act 31), the Football Pools Authority Act 1961 (Act 78), the Gambling Machines Decree 1973 (NRCD 174) and the Casino Licensing Decree 1975 (NRCD 320). Lotteries are separate and sit with the National Lottery Authority. If copy anywhere says 'National Gaming Board', it is not a stale name for this regulator, it is a name that never existed.

Questions about the register

Does the Gaming Commission publish licence numbers?
No. Its list of licensed companies carries trading names, the operation type licensed and the dates a licence runs between. Every licence number on this site therefore comes from somewhere else, and this page names the somewhere for each of them.
Why do licence numbers for one bookmaker contradict each other?
Two reasons and they look identical from outside. Ghana issues an annual provisional permit, so a company accumulates a new number each year and a set of numbers that look contradictory is often a set of successive years. The other reason is transcription: two numbers differing by a single character, each carried by a different affiliate, is what a typo looks like after it has been copied.
Can a licensed sportsbook run a casino?
That is a question about the licence documents rather than about the list, and this desk does not hold them. What can be said is what the register records: four companies here hold two entries, and at least two hold a sports betting entry while running a full casino. That is a difference between what the register records and what the website does, and it is printed as exactly that rather than as an allegation.
What was the regulator called before?
Correct current name, and it has not changed. There was no body called the 'National Gaming Board' in Ghana: before Act 721 established the Commission, oversight of casinos and other games of chance sat directly with the Ministry of the Interior under the Lotteries and Betting Act 1960 (Act 31), the Football Pools Authority Act 1961 (Act 78), the Gambling Machines Decree 1973 (NRCD 174) and the Casino Licensing Decree 1975 (NRCD 320).
